Student Discount Card
One goal of council this year is to look into a student discount card at local shops and retaraunts around the Langley area.  When Langley Township Mayor Green came to speak to council, the idea was mentioned and he stongly encouraged the idea affirming that Trinity students are responsible for a large part of the Langley economy.  As a result, TWUSA council was put in touch with the Chamber of Commerce and is working harder than ever to get a discount program off the ground.   Sound off your thoughts here, or email twusavp@twu.ca if you have any ideas on where you would like to see a Trinity discount.

Food Services Updates

The Food Services Committee had a meeting recently. Here are some updates:

  1. The new lounge should be finished this week!
  2. There is discussion about the possibility of having food plans available for commuters
  3. A website might be created to inform students of weekly menus
  4. Sodexo may start serving specialty breakfasts on the weekends

Here's a sample for feedback students have given to Sodexo:

  1. More soy products
  2. More diversity in vegetarian/vegan options
  3. More fruit salad in the salad bar

Here's some input from Sodexo:

  1. Students should be honest about the food portions they serve themselves, especially at salad bar. When students take more than they pay for, prices go up for everyone.

We want your input, especially on the following topics:

  1. Are you willing to pay more for quality or quantity?
  2. How is the service you are getting?

Continue to give your feedback to your TWUSA representative and to Sodexo. We value your opinion.

New Major Coming to Trinity

On Tuesday, the University Senate passed a proposal allowing a new major on campus, the Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications.  This degree divides credits between communications courses as well as business courses while maintaining the University core.

The proposals was brought forward by School of Business Dean Andrea Soberg and Communications Professor Bill Strom. The proposal came in response to a study that concluded most communications alumni end up in coporate communication careers, and as the degree includes already offered classes, does not add any expenses to the university.

The proposal was adopted unanimously and is the degree is the first of its kind in Canada.  It is hoped that the new degree will be offered as soon as Fall 2010.

Additionally, University Senate passed a proposal changing the title of the Faculty of Professional Studies and Performing Arts to the School of Arts, Media and Culture.  The move was proposed by FPSPA Dean David Squires and is intended to offer better brand identity for its students.  There is an additional hope that in the near future the School will expand to include graduate studies, probably starting with a Master of Arts in Communications.
